Mary Long
Mary (AKA Queen of Hearts) started the Cycle of Giving (COG) with her husband Mal in 2006. So this 19th year, we are bringing it back to the Sunshine Coast to support this life saving cardiac research.
I joined the SCBTC in 2005. We had started to plan the first COG ride for 2006 & I definitely needed to up-skill from my childhood riding. Times when a bike had no gears & the pedals were the brakes. Cycling in a group & negotiating vastly increased traffic were added challenges. Swimming was my first passion but soon cycling was to become the second.
I quickly developed many new & close friendships by being in the Club. This support has continued & has ensured the success of the COG.
Family & friends are the priority in my life. They are my rock. To have that love & support truly enriches one's life. My fitness takes on a roller coaster ride as I have three beautiful grandchildren that I adore & visit frequently.
I love sharing adventures with them & yes, I did introduce them to cycling at a young age.
Another penchant is travel. I have indeed been fortunate to have visited different countries & cultures. Travel enables you to view the world through different eyes.
Two physically difficult 'holidays' were trekking Mont Blanc (snow, rain, ice & glaciers) and cycling in the Balkans (mountains!!!) with a few close friends who are Club members.
Experiences in life leave deep impressions. As I continue down my life's path with valued family & friends at my side, I hope to have continued good health, to stay active, to be happy & have fun. Humour is an essential asset.
Now, on your bikes!
