I started cycling in 2010 at the age of 48, initially to fundraise for the Conquer Cancer campaign as part of a family cycling team "Riding for Rose".

Cycling is addictive and I quickly upgraded my first flat bar hybrid bike to a road bike and added a time trial bike for triathlons. After several more upgrades, I'm now riding a power assist Orbea D30 after an injury 18 months ago.

My cycling boast is my daughter Nikki Butterfield cycled for Australia, and I was lucky enough to watch her race at the World Championships in Italy.

After retirement as Town Planners in 2016, my husband Michael and I started ticking off our cycling bucket list riding the Alps in Italy and France, the Pyrenees and multi day riding following the Camino in Spain, the Rhine & Mosel rivers in Germany and rail trails in New Zealand and Australia.

Our travel blog on Facebook and Strava was called "Cycling Nomads Australia". Feel free to follow our travel adventures.

We moved from Brisbane to Golden Beach in 2021 and couldn't find any local road cycling groups close to home, and Golden Beach Cycling was born. In the beginning it was a small group of friends enjoying cycling together, and GBC was launched via a Facebook group and promoted to local community pages and other cycling clubs.

GBC has over 300 Facebook followers and about 45 active members who have come across to the Sunshine Coast Bicycle Touring Club as the new Southern Chapter. With regular weekly club rides rolling out from Golden Beach, four different paced rides are offered on the ride calendar. These days I'm slowing down and enjoying the social side of road cycling. You will find me on the GBC Spinners and Cruisers rides. I look forward to meeting you out on the bike soon.
