Morning Has Broken

It was an early start for the volunteers and 70km riders. And oh what a beautiful morning it was!

Thanks to Bruce and Kerrie for these great photos and videos too. Click here.

Montville climb: easy peasy said the 70km riders!

The 20km and 30km enjoyed their ride.

What a beautiful day for a bike ride. The 20km riders headed down the coastal path then went under the highway over to the pathways along Mooloolah River.

Check out the video taken by Noel Wood in the 30km group.

The 50km riders had the biggest group so split into two.

Read about their wonderful ride and slideshow pictures below.

COG 50km Group Report

After a week of 'average' weather, I'm sure that all riders were thankful to arrive at our gathering point in Kawana under clear skies and comfortable temperatures. After a 50km group photo in the carpark, two groups headed out to tackle the 50km circuit.

The course showcased the beauty of the southern end of the Sunshine Coast with a cruise along the coast taking in glimpses of inlets, beaches, headlands, waterways and the hinterland. We stopped a few times for photo opportunities to provide evidence of our morning's effort. Our outing was not incident free with poor Audi suffering a broken derailleur hanger on a little pinch along the King's beach stretch. Audi hatched his own rescue plan and we were happily reunited with him at the finish line. 😊

Happy days! The second delay – Brendan with a flat tyre (at the halfway mark) – was dealt with in true group spirit. Most enjoyed a chat, some a toilet break, while Brendan performed his 'tyre magic' with some 'helpful advice' (??) from Bevan and myself. I'm happy to say that the return journey was incident free. It was great to have a mix of new and old faces riding together and connecting with some interesting conversation as we rolled along. Everyone appeared to smash that distance with ease but still required a sausage and coffee to kick on in a social capacity upon our return.

Everyone's participation in the 'Cycle of Giving' was duly acknowledged, especially the champions of the day who graciously went the extra mile with their efforts. I believe that at the end of the day, we all understood that our outing had been much more than just another ride.

Thank-you one and all!

Michael and Helen catered perfectly for the After Ride Social Event. Ann and Shirley did a great job with the raffles. Thanks to all the volunteers!

Looking good in the new jerseys. Fabulous support for a life saving cause.
