Cycle of Giving History

Mary Long and her husband Mal started the Cycle of Giving charity ride in 2006 to show their gratitude to Mal's donor family and the medical team that performed the lifesaving surgery, and to raise awareness of the need for organ and tissue donation. Read more.

About the Ride

  • The charity ride will be held on Saturday 23 August and start at the northern carpark near the Kawana Surf Club.
  • The routes will be provided to Ride Leaders and offer three distances: 20km, 30km and 50km. The 50km group will leave half hour before the other rides so we all get back around the same time. Your usual group can stay together and select their preferred distance.
  • Our Club's insurance will cover our members.
  • There will be an After Ride Social Event following the Saturday ride.
  • A number of business partners have provided gifts and vouchers that will be raffled on the day.

Funds raised

Funds raised will go to the 2026 Cycle of Giving Transplant Research Grant.

Our Target is $15,000

Any funds raised will be directed to The Cycle of Giving Transplant Research Grant which is awarded to a Researcher each year. Lauren Blake received the 2025 Cycle of Giving Research Grant. Lauren's research will help better protect donor hearts and increase the number of successful heart transplants. Read about Lauren's research (pdf).
